We stayed in the motel 1 night, we had a couple maintenance things like the toilet seat was extremely loose, the bathroom door didn't latch and the main door was rubbing, a couple cleanliness issues a hair on the floor in bathroom and dust on light between beds. Also there was this terrible smell in the closet by door we figured it was smoke coming through vents it smelled like burnt wires. They allow smoking on each floor I believe since there was ashtray by the elevator. On to the good things the bell hop was the best, we couldn't find snacks for kids so he went in his break room and got us some. The beds were super comfy, the gym was great, and I loved the super soaker tub, only thing I would have liked is radio in bathroom to relax in tub or a TV. On to the casino, I am from Michigan and we normally go to little river casino which has much newer machines and has popcorn. I found this casino to be extremely dated and they had a ton of the same panda machine, it has 3 floors and there is really no difference between the floors, each floor has the same dated machines. We did not eat here, however we did stop to one of them to see if they had watermelon and the staff wasn't overly friendly at all. I am giving the motel a 4. And the casino a 2, I walked away a tiny bit ahead.

Feeling lucky today! Came to this casino with some friends just for fun. Is a decent size casino. The casino is very old and so were some of the machines. Is also not smoke free which I didn't like. You come out smelling like a ash tray. The staff was very nice. They also have free water and soda. There are a couple of food places inside you can go to eat. Overall fun if you don't mind the 30mins drive from chicago.

Compared to both the Majestic Star and Horseshoe casinos, the Ameristar is the best of the three. The tables there pay out pretty well (when they let you win), and I've heard other slots players have fun playing too. As far as the food is concerned, the restaurants they have there are pretty nice, with some good choices. If you're just looking for a nice place to hang out and win a little money while you do it, then this is a good place to do it.

I was a regular gambler when they were Resort. I didnot come to this joint for 4-5 years. I went to Horseshoe since it was much closer to my house. I went to play some crap this week. The dealers and pitboss were professional and nice . I only play 2 or 3 hours thinking I would not get anything. But the pitboss said I can get a free seafood buffet. I play at horseshoe and 20 hours may not even get me a buffet. I ate three plate of crab legs. One thing I noticed is the there is few crap players who just watching people playing. When I see a full table of players, only 5 or6 are playing . Some just didnot want to leave after they lost all their money. But overall I have a good time. I will be back real soon.

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner! Man, that Quadricorn really knows how to turn.me .on. Hmmm... maybe not the right choice of words but you get what I'm sayin', right? I.Won.Money! But that's not why the 4 stars. To be honest, the casino is kind of small, and really annoying since it's not all on one floor. It's like 5 floors each with 3 rooms of games. Some of the games were broken, when you call for help no one will come, you cannot take pictures in the casino even though there aren't any signs that say that, just a super dick who goes around and says "Ay! No pictures!" and then when you say soory, he says "No, you're not" and then under your breath you say 'I know I'm not but you didn't have to call me on it.' And then he'll continue on and say "You do that again and imma take that phone away from you.' And then you say 'No you f*cking won't', and then that's the end of it. #Lame But I still ended up winning. And they had a Ghostbusters game with Bill Murray on the screen... even though it was a major change chugger. And they had a red panda game... again, another change chugger. But THEN we found our winning ticket game and that's where we spent the next few hours listening to the sweet sounds of ka-ching. What I really liked about the casino, was that every 90 days they swap out the new machines so ish doesn't get stale or insanely jammed up like at other casinos (coughcoughhorseshoe). And then onto the hotel... Not much to look at on the outside (connected to the casino), but they just got some major rehab and everything is totes new and totes fab. First off, all the rooms are HUGE. They're like double-wide, less trashy rooms at other hotels. The cushioned bench at the end of the beds has a cutout underneath that's the perfecto place for shoes... I wish all benches/stools were made like that. The carpet is extra foamy and soft. After 2 glasses of wine and a shot of Bailey's in my casino coffee, I was ready to lay down and nap the crap out of that casino hotel carpet. But I refrained. I refrained, and I made it back to the hotel bed which was some kinda magic memory foam and put my ass right to bed. Would I go back? Well, lemme put it this way. I just got an email for $50 free dollars in casino credit that I'm 1000% positive I can turn into $500. See you soon, Quadricorn!

I stayed at the Ameristar Spa in Blackhawk a few times last year and absolutely loved it. So after having moved back to the Midwest from Colorado, I was really happy to see an Ameristar not too far from me. After having booked my reservations I decided to check out the reviews and immediately became nervous. It didn't have as great of reviews as the Blackhawk location and quite a few complaints. I decided to see it through and I'm glad I did. My room was clean and comfortable. The wifi signal was strong. The restaurants are great and the buffet here is just as good as the one in Blackhawk. The staff has been very friendly. Even the security guards have been very smiley and always offering a friendly greeting. Everything's been wonderful. My only complaint is that my room smelled strange. It didn't smell like smoke and it wasn't a foul odor. I'm not sure if it's the type of cleaner they use or if it's an air freshener. It was just a strange smell but you do get used to it after a while. I've read complaints about the casino floor being fairly smokey. I stayed on weekdays so it wasn't as busy and so perhaps it wasn't as smokey. There are definitely smokers on the floor but they were easy for me to avoid. All in all everything was great!

I noticed on our confirmation that unless you call by 9:00pm for a late arrival, your room may be given away. Due to our circumstances, we were in downtown Chicago and would be arriving late so my daughter called at 8:30 to let them know. The front desk told her that they overbooked and couldn't hold our room. She was quite rude to my daughter, so *I* called back. I told the girl on the phone the same thing. She said they overbooked and couldn't hold our room. I told her our room was PAID for in FULL! She didn't bother to look at our reservation and kept telling me that it wouldn't be held because they were overbooked. She finally passed me along to the manager who looked at our reservation and said that she would hold a room for us. So we get there-- NO WHERE on our reservation did it say that they don't allow guests under the age of 21 to stay at the hotel since it's attached to a casino, but she made a "special exception" and allowed my 16 year old daughter to stay. THEN... she tells me that even though we booked a double room--we have 3 people staying in one room and the manager said she would hold a room for us-- we had a king room. NOT what I wanted or was expecting. But after a phone call and trip down to the front desk, they did provide a roll away bed for my daughter. Overall, the service was terrible and the entire process was horribly inconvenient and a pain in the butt. The hotel was nice, room was very clean and comfortable. We don't gamble, so I can't say what the casino was like. I won't recommend this place or go back.

We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of this hotel, considering the location and the general reputation of "the boat" locations. They really did a nice job on this one. The hotel is large, but well laid out. The lobby is expansive and pretty grand. The upstairs hallways and rooms are boldly decorated. We had a double smoking room and there was no lingering smoke smell upon arrival. The rooms are well-appointed, and the bathroom is huge, with both a large tub and a separate shower stall. Our room also had a mini-fridge, which was great for keeping cocktails or waters in. It's always a nice touch. The room was almost perfectly clean (the toilet was one area missed by housekeeping though), and the beds were incredibly comfortable. I'd suggest the hotel consider upgrading to the whole pillow instead of those annoying squares that seem popular these days. They're useless. The housekeeping staff were very helpful and cheerfully provided us with extra towels and coffee packets for the in-room machine. They always greeted us warmly when we encountered anyone in the halls. The vending area is enclosed, with a door, so it mutes any obnoxious noise that most hotels have when your neighbor decides he needs ice at 3 a.m. My only guff is with the flat-panel tv and remote--the on-screen channel guide does not reflect the actual channel selections available. They do provide a laminated card for the channels, but it's confusing to be greeted by a guide that bears no resemblance to reality when you turn it on. The remotes are barely functional and seem like something out of the early nineties. But that's a minor issue. The food choices are solid, and nothing beats an Italian beef at 2 a.m. We also hit the buffet for lunch and it was pretty good as casino buffets go.

Being to casinos all over the world, this 1 ranks on the lower end. Taking the bus from Chicago, it was convenient and offer tourists and non-drivers a way to spend their money. Good layout - Self serve soda machines as you enter each floor helps patrons know where to find beverages. Table games are solely on Level 3 except for the High $$ which is located on Level 2 so you can quickly scan the tables and find a game of your choice. Cashier booth steps from the tables and just before entering the escalator area. Older slot machines are grouped together while newer ones are featured on the 2nd floor. Machine hoarders - this is ridiculous. I've seen people put $$ in 1 machine. Walk 2 machines down and gamble over there and then get upset when patrons accidentally sit down at the unattended machine. Why would a casino allow this - machines sitting idle and not making $$? People watchers - I am a person that enjoys people watching but some of the patrons at this casino are TOO CLOSE to the action. 1 man saw my bonus round winnings, tapped me on the shoulder, said "Now, you make sure to take some of that home." Another patron was reading my smart phone over my shoulder when I was checking in on Yelp! Customer service - I was playing a $15 BJ game. The floor supervisor comes by to ask me if I mind if the table was changed to $10. Before I even answered, 3 players joined the table and blatantly said, "That sign is wrong. This table is $10 now." I chose a $15 table because it was 1 step above the current minimum and therefore I can thin out most of the beginners but now the casino decides to change it without even asking the current player(s) at the table - UNACCEPTABLE!

This is a very good buffet food is awesome excellent catfish love their Chocolate fondue. But hate the long lines on the weekends. But other than that it's very good

Not for non-smokers. They used to have a non- smoking section that was completely walled off from smokers. Now it just is partitioned off with a 3/4 wall. I went down there and could not breath it was so smokey! There is no ventilation at all and this was Sunday at noon. I cant imagine how bad it gets at night! I don't understand how it got so bad at this casino, oh well there are plenty other places to gamble at!

I like coming to this casino more than Horseshoe to play baccarat and roulette. It can be annoying that they have like 4 different floors in the casino and each floor isn't that big. It isn't too bad though because I normally just stay in one floor. The workers and dealer here are all pretty friendly for the most part. I was playing on a table and the pit boss asked me do I have any comps in my players card. I said I didn't know and he helped me check and found out I had free $15 play money and gave me that. Not much, but still very nice of him to check for me. Also, I like how you can serve your own drinks at your own convenient from the soda machine and grab water from the bar with ease. I have better luck gambling here than other casinos for some reason.

I've been to Ameristar a couple of times to gamble. They don't have as many slots and tables as the Horseshoe, but the times I've gone have been between 4am and 8am, so it's not crowded. I am giving one star though because of the manager at their buffet. A group of friends and myself went on a Sunday to their breakfast buffet. Since there were 8 of us, they pushed a few tables together for us away in an empty section. Half way through our meal, the manager came by. We thought she was stopping by our table to greet us and ask how our meal was. Imagine our shock when she started chastising us for disturbing other guests and to "watch out, because people are always watching". Our jaws were on the floor. We felt threatened and unwelcomed. Two people in our party were so upset they couldn't finish their food. We all work the graves shift and simply wanted to eat a meal together before going home and going to bed. We will not be eating there again. I wish the manager had just kept her unsavory opinion of us to herself, or contacted security if our 'behavior' (re: trying to stay awake & enjoy a meal) was truly that offensive.

The buffet in their Heritage Buffet is decent at $20 pp, and they have huge, tender oxtails on Sat nite. That in itself was a treat. Pretty large selection of other buffet items, and most but not all selections were decent quality. BBQ ribs, and pot stickers were cardboardy and pretty atrocious. Prime rib, chicken marsala, honey chicken, crab salad, and especially the oxtails were quite good.

Wow! I haven't back here since I think it was Harrah's or maybe right when they changed over to Ameristar. I have to say it looks a lot better and brighter and felt a bit like Vegas. If you love slots.....this is the PLACE! They have so many new ones that I haven't seen at the other casinos, but there are limited table games. I was a bit surprised at that. Anywhoo......nice place to check out.

We don't drink or gamble, so this is just for the Hotel. Excellent rooms, wonderful amenities. Great job on the renovation. Wonderful amenities: shower & soaking tub, toilet off the shower/ bath/ counter area in small little room. 2 person desk with good lamp, 4 outlets within easy access. Counch was comfortable with armrest/ end table. Very comfortable bed & soft sheets. Loved the bench at the end of the bed, wih cubbies for shoes. Flat screen tv with way too much cable to get any work done. Very large cabinet with fridge (microwave down the hall by the ice), 3 large drawers, 1 small drawer & 3 shelves for clothes storage. Closet with shelf & plenty of nice wooden hangers. Bedside tables with drawers & cabinets, lamps with 2 outlets each. Loved the black, red white, silver decor. We will stay here the next time in E Chicago!

Our first visit to Ameristar, although ok, wasn't too impressed. It's hard to find off the expressway...not enough signs to "follow the way" so if you don't have a GPS or a good map you better be careful as you have to drive through an industrial area that is rather scarey at night. Being female, I wouldn't want to drive there alone! On the up side, I like that it has self-serve soda fountains, you can smoke inside (they do have a non-smoking section tho) and there are a lot of penny machines (my favorites). Overall and in comparison to Majestic (nearby) and Horseshoe, Ameristar seemed to have loser slots which made me and my husband happy!
(3)Rick F.
It has a food court and gambling. The rooms are very nice, modern decor. The restaurants and shops are cool. I don't gamble, so the whole thing is lost on me. They take your car and if you want to go anywhere, you have to wait for the valet and then, of course, tip them. I suspect this is by design to keep you there. The staff is very friendly. They say "good luck, sir." Waaaay too much.
(3)Barb B.
We took a getaway vacation to Ameristar last weekend and had a terrifc time. The hotel was lovely, the food was great (even the buffet and we don't usually like buffets) and there was plenty of seating at the many bars that had video poker which is our favorite. The only thing that could make it better would be sports betting (oh and winning would be nice too but we had a good time any way).
(5)SaadnSarah K.
Nice rooms. The electric outlets on the bedside lamp are a very convenient touch for charging your cellphone. No room service - really?

I used call this place home, it was close enough to work, so that a quick visit after work was easy. Played enough to make it to the second tier on their players card, which then I was assigned a casino host (first initial D). All was great, give her a call if I needed a room or anything else. But I guessing that my level of play most have slipped, because no more return phone calls from my host and no more free rooms. It would have been great if they just told me that I went down to the first level card, instead I just got the cold shoulder. When I first started going there when it was Resorts, thing were a lot better. The dealers would know you by name and as you walked by they would acknowledge your presence. As Ameristar, they even look at you if you are sitting at their table. Unless you are the same nationality as they are, no matter where. I never seen such a bunch of stone faces dealers. Another thing was limit or stop the pit bosses from giving out comps at the table. Used to be if you were there for a couple of hours playing cards, they would throw you a little freebie. The only bright spot here is the buffet. The food is great tasting and the wait staff is very attentive. The management also comes around during your meal and asks how is everything. It is a shame that the casino staff can't be more like the buffet staff.

Drive a bit further and go to Four Winds in New Buffalo MI

What a weird drive on multiple highways to get to a smoke filled, sort of depressing casino. Seriously, we almost drove off the road to find this dang place. How about some lights, eh, Indiana? Anywho, they had Airplane! penny slots so I was happy but I'm not sure it was worth my clothes reeking of cancer stick smoke for a day. My FBIL won some dough so that was great and there was excellent people watching - a purple fur coat!?!?!
(2)Candace G.
Came here for a mini honeymoon with the hubby, the hotel room was very clean, comfortable, and I loved the bathroom with the deep tub. Now as for the casino, it was very small, I was not to excited about the slot machines they offered. I played only one during my two day stay. The buffet was around 13.99 for dinner, all you can eat. The food was really good, did not have a huge selection but still a nice buffet. I will return when I need a quick getaway. I would have given it 4 stars for just the hotel room alone, but my overall experience was about a 3
(3)Rosa A.
this casino sucks big time. they are racist! i will never go back here again i will stick to the horse shoe they should get some friendly staff especially at the front!
(1)Keziah C.
I love going to the casino strictly for the buffet meals ;-). Seafood crab leg night on Fridays is awesome. I love the food, and the affordable pricing, and the desserts yummy, and so much to choose from. Its a great place for a group, family and children. Very nice wait staff, and management, very clean and the presentation of the food is nice also. I would definitely recommend to others to try it.
(3)Crystal N.
Tried to give this place another chance. But then a fight broke out while I was there. Really??? People actually fight over penny slot machines?!?!? Pssshh, thats why I stick to Roulette. I don't think I'll be back.
(2)David P.
Best Buffet of all the casinos around. The crab legs are plentiful, the Prime Rib is perfectly rare and the oysters are always tasty. They also have sushi and a great GREAT Sweet and Spicy Shrimp. The buffet is small which has good and bad points. Sometimes the wait is long but once seated, you don't have to go far for a plate of food.
(4)John K.
First of all, this casino is hard to find. There are tons of billboards along the freeway that manage to get you in the general vicinity, but they need more signs at street-level to help you find the facility. The interior decor feels very 1970's... in a BAD way. There is garish, red neon lighting everywhere. (I felt like I was in a movie filmed in the 1970's, but set in the year 3,000. It's like, they did their best with what they had to make it look cool and classy and futuristic... but what they had was shag carpeting and cheap neon.) I did not eat at the restaurants, but they looked terrible. Same for exploring the gift-shop. Restrooms were adequately clean. The casino floor was very smoky and had a lot of slots, but VERY FEW table games. (There was a line to play at some of them, while other tables sat unopened and fallow. Clearly, they needed to hire more dealers to work at peak times.) Customer service was lousy. The security guards just chatted with their friends. There were long lines for slot-players to cash out. I saw one, lonely corner bar on the second level. Otherwise, drink service appeared to be nonexistent. The three-tiered layout of the casino was cool and funky (but not enough to bump it to 2-star range). To improve, the Ameristar Casino could (deep breath) : - Erect more street signs to direct customers to the front door. - Redesign the gloomy interior (using its cool, 3-tiered structure to its advantage) - Make sure that ALL table games are staffed, considering their modest number - Better food and more booze - Better customer service They could also do something crazy to make themselves distinctive and do an "end run" around all their failings. (Like, for example, if they made the minimum bet on table games $2 or $3. That's the ONLY reason I think I'd ever come back here.)
(1)r j.
Went to the buffet. It was decent. The line for the buffet was about 20-30 minutes. The crab legs were plentiful. Did not feel bad having piled up two plates of crab legs considering everyone else was doing it. The legs were cooked perfectly. The prime rib was excellent. the severs are on top of their game here. They always took your dirty plates and always made sure you had a drink. For $20 it's worth it. The only problem I have with this place is getting there and leaving. It is kind of confusing due to the construction. Other than that I would recommend it. Crab legs are only served on Saturdays.
(4)Brittany N.
This Casino is amazing!! I would highly reccomend this casino to anyone looking to have a good time! The service is outstanding and I have never been treated better at any other hotel/casino in the area.

was here two saturdays ago to find out they moved crab leg night to friday, stayed ate anyway cream corn was really good and i usually dont eat it and the ox tails were really good you just had to look for the right one, so came back on a friday it was right around 6 pm, it was a line but it was not that long, noticed that the line had a sign that said something about the cards which we did not have so we walked straight to the front of the line and were promptly seated people finally caught on that there were two lines. so the price is now 25 but its still worth it. the key is to get the crab legs as they are putting them out just wait if they are low. they were good for the most part a few batches were way over cooked but for the most part they were really good the salmon was kinda dry, mac and cheese is good. the deserts kinda suck no chocolate cake they had a cheesecake that looked really good but they ran out, the little red velvet cake things are way to sweet they had no cookies that night. it is really weird going there but i left stuffed with crab legs for 25 so it was all good. the line and the wait can become off the chain so get there early.
